Summary
If you love photographing people and want to improve your lighting, composition and storytelling, this could be the class for you! We will begin the class with a thorough discussion of the 3 properties of light: direction, quality and quantity. Then we’ll head outside with a model and have a short demonstration. You will then be paired up with a partner and photograph each other to practice what you have learned. Feel free to bring something to add to your story – hats, etc. that will tell the viewer something about you.
In this class we will discuss how to:
Understand the properties of light and how they affect your image
Identify flattering available light for portraits outdoors and indoors.
Use a light meter to establish light ratios (highlights and shadows)
Use simple light modifiers to create the effect you desire
Light patterns that flatter the face
Basic composition & posing that can add impact to your portraits
